 Earthquake Relief Program

A strong 7.8 earthquake hit across the country on April 25 which was followed by powerful aftershocks of magnitude 6.9 on April 26 and 6.8 on May 12. The devastating earthquake killed more than 8000 people and 14 districts of Nepal have been hugely affected. Thousands of households, numerous schools and hospitals have been destroyed by the disaster. Among most affected districts, the death toll has reached more than 3800 in Sindhupalchok alone, which is the highest number.

Currently, we are making efforts for the relief of the earthquake victims in Sindhupalchok under the campaign name – Earthquake Relief Campaign in Sindhupalchok. The campaign has been supported by various organizations, groups and individuals. The program works only for the victims of Sindhupalchok district, most affected district. We have proposed our relief program in different phases:

Phase I: Immediate Relief Items to victims

In this phase, we suppose to deliver immediate relief items such as foods, tents, medicines and other basic needs items to victims.

Phase II: Immediate Relief to students of affected areas

In this phase, we suppose to help the students of the affected areas who have been badly traumatized by the disaster. We will coordinate with school management committee to reopen the schools and create teaching and learning environments by installing alternative classrooms, providing education materials and so on.  And immediate relief to students will encourage them to re-attend schools. So we will provide stationary items, uniforms, etc to the students.

Phase III: Long-term relief to students and re-construction of Schools/hospitals

In this phase, we suppose to help students who will not be able to attend school due to economic problems. Because lots of households have been completely damaged, many parents of students may not afford to resend their children to school. Also, we are hoping to work for the re-construction of school and hospitals in this phase.

Progress of Program:

Phase I (Status: Completed)
