SQL Server Index Internals: A Deep Dive
Abstract: Have you ever wondered what an index actually looks like under the covers? Are you curious as to how SQL Server indexes retrieve data so quickly? In this session, we'll discuss index internals and how SQL Server creates, maintains, and uses indexes internally for normal operations. We’ll cover topics such as index data structures, query optimization (briefly), and maintaining indexes and statistics. After this session, you’ll understand the DMVs available in SQL Server 2012 for viewing index internals, what data is available at each level of the index btree structure and how to make meaningful use of that data, and how data is retrieved through efficient index usage.

Anil Krishnan is a regular presenter at Himalayan SQL Server User Group. Currently he works as a Database Engineer at Agile IT Solution Pvt. Ltd. He works for Database Administrator. He worked at Verisk Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd. For 2yrs from Nov 2010 - Oct 2012 as Software Engineer. He passed his bachelor’s degree in Information Management from St. Xavier's College. He is a former Microsoft Student Partner.

Shree Khanal is a Database Architect, Speaker and Trainer having 12+ years of professional experience on database solution development and optimization. He is Microsoft Certified Database Professional from SQL Server 2000 to 2012. Since working with SQL Server 7, he has been working with all the version of SQL Server up to 2012 in production environment. In context of OLAP cube development, he started working on it from SQL Server 2000 to latest SSAS 2012. He has worked number of years providing SQL BI solutions to various enterprise clients most of them from BI sector. He founded and has been leading the Himalayan SQL Server User Group (www.sqlpassnepal.org) based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

John Savill started out as a VAX/VMS systems administrator and quickly discovered Windows NT when Ctrl-Alt-Del did not give the expected result and instead pulled up a weird security dialog. From that point John started playing with Windows NT and started the Windows NT FAQ as a sub-site of savilltech.com and later moved it to ntfaq.com which is not part of the WindowsITPro site. Today John has just finished his 6th book, Mastering Hyper-V 2012 R2 and speaks at many industry events both live and over the web
